2008 KING OF THE MOUNTAIN RACE, POMONA Matt Collins – Personal Fitness Trainer –
Fatburners 16th Place – Mens Open Jennifer Forster – Personal Fitness Trainer – Fatburners 4th Place – Womens Open
Matt Collins from Fatburners placed a respectable 16th place in the Mens Open race up & down the mountain while fearlessly dodging sharp rocks, pointy sticks & butt grazing tree branches wearing…a hot
pink g-string! Yes, never one to shirk from a challenge, Matt braved the elements & bared his bum while taking the road less travelled, raising $10,000 for charity! This photo of Matt proudly made its way into the local newspaper
the Sunshine Coast Daily, just to make sure everyone got the same view as the person behind him! Now that’s what we call an extreme sport!
2007 48-HOUR TREADMILL CHALLENGE Attempting to break the Guinness Book of World Records for
the longest distance covered on a treadmill over 48 hours
48-HOUR TREADMILL CHALLENGE FOR CHARITY 2007 Matt Collins from Fatburners, along with 11 other fitness fanatics attempted to break the world record for the longest
distance covered on a treadmill over a 48-hour period. Each person took turns to run one hour at a time, until the 2-day mission was completed. The record was previously set in Amsterdam when a group had covered 512 kilometres in 48
hours.
There was a deeper reason behind this world record attempt. This fitness community challenge was all about raising money for a little town in Ethiopia, where one of Matt’s clients, a woman at Fatburners had
adopted 2 children. She was heading back to the African country, & told Matt she wanted to spend some money on the township where her children were born. The people there are so poor, they basically own very little.
Matt saw an opportunity to assist & got an idea. He logged on to the Guinness Book of World Records website, saw a world record-breaking feat his Fatburners team could attempt & set about organising the event
to become reality, while also keenly fundraising.
The world record attempt for the longest distance covered on a treadmill over a 48-hour period took place on 20-22 September 2007 at the Nambour PCYC. It was a great community event. They had the help of 2 masseurs
(that volunteered their time) heaps of food, drinks &assistants—Fatburners even had the local firefighters come in & offer their help!
Fatburners raised over $2000 for the Ethiopian charity & after 48 hours they fell only 10km short of the Guinness World Record! SO CLOSE!! All in all, 12 people gave up their time for 24 hours (non-stop) & ran
502kms to raise money for a very valuable cause. It was a highly emotional, very positive experience all round.
The team at Fatburners can’t wait to do something similar!!!
